Jason
Sugarman was called to the Bar in 1995. He practices exclusively in crime in
London and the South-East, with special emphasis on serious fraud and company
insolvency matters.
He
is approved by the Attorney General to undertake work on behalf of H.M. Customs
and Excise, the Department of Trade and Industry and he is on the approved
list for the Crown Prosecution Service.
Throughout
his career Jason has been instructed in a number of high profile cases.
Currently instructed by H.M. Customs & Excise in a £250 million fraud. The case involves the mobile telephone industry
Most recently he was instructed as defence leading Junior Counsel in a complex blackmail case on a solicitor.
He was instructed to prosecute a specialized trademark infringement case involving Microsoft computer technology on behalf of Trading Standards.
Jason has been led by James Eadie (a leading Public Law Barrister) in a Human Rights case on behalf of the DTI.
Customs instructed Jason as a Junior to prosecute a multi-million money laundering operation at Southwark. This was successful and Customs confiscated more than £1 million in cash and assets.
The
London Boroughs of Richmond and Merton have also instructed him.
He advises on Financial Services Authority investigations into city institutions.
In
addition he has a very extensive experience of all types of crime, including sex
offences, violence and dishonesty of all types.
He has prosecuted and defended throughout the London, the South-East and
the Midlands. In addition to his work at the Bar he has served as a local
authority Councillor for some years.
